On the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada massif, facing the Mediterranean Sea and sheltered by the Natural Park is the region of La Alpujarra, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

CORTIJO SOLERA sits on a private, secluded, south-facing escarpment above the whitewashed 13th Century Alpujarran village of Soportujar.

A contemporary swimming pool, numerous private terraces, gardens, private fishing lake and ancient threshing circle boasting a breathtaking view complement six tasteful, comfortable and stylishly decorated double rooms, three of which are ensuite.

Take a stroll amongst the beauty of the Sierra Nevada National Park and nearby forests, or simply put your feet up beside the pool and take in the awe-inspiring views. This is your place to relax and unwind.

There are many great WALKS around the area. Being on the very edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park the house is ideally situated for trekking through forests, along tracks and over mountains. There’s a 300km route around the Sierra Nevada, known as “Sulayr”and of course the pan-European walking route GR-7 which passes close the house.

The LOCAL VILLAGE of Soportujar, a short walk down the path to the side of the house, has a few bar/restaurants and is well known throughout Europe for its connection to occult. In the middle of August they hold the very popular week-long FERIA DEL EMBRUJO - a witch festival. You’ll enjoy strolling around the village and visiting the witches cave, haunted bridge, and even their own threshing circle, The Era of the Covens (Era de los Aquelarres), said to be where Alpujarran witches once gathered to practice their craft.

The nearby whitewashed ALPUJARRAN VILLAGES of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira are particular favourites for tourists. There you can buy great rugs, local crafts, clothes and produce. If you like chocolate, check out the little factory in Pampaneira. Further along the road is Spain’s highest village, Trevelez - well known for cured hams. All Alpujarran villages have an abundance of shops selling artisan products as well as great restaurants and bars. Nearby town Orgiva has a bustling MARKET on Thursday mornings featuring local produce, vegetables, meat and fruit.

The nearby CABALLO PARK in Soportujar offer our guests door-to-door pickups for HORSE RIDING treks into the local mountains. They will drive you from our front gate to their stables down the lane where you will be provided with all equipment and horses for a guided ride into the Sierra Nevada and then return you back to the house.

We have a special deal with a fantastic local MASSEUR who can visit the house at short notice and provide a range of therapies including Deep Tissue Massage, relaxing Thai Massage, Ayurvedic Head & Face Massage and Lomilomi Nui Massage.

About a 10 min drive away is one of Europe’s largest BUDDHIST retreat centres, O Sel Ling. They allow visitors to their tranquil prayer wheels, stupas, statues and gardens. Well worth a visit.

The COASTAL RESORTS of Salobrena and Almunecar are about an hour away and are recommended for beaches, restaurants and nightlife.

The Sierra Nevada SKI RESORTS are on the north of the mountains in the Granada direction.
Don’t miss the incredible Alhambra Palace in GRANADA. One of the highlights of any trip to the region.
